It's that time of year again!
Hopefully you've got all your Xmas pressie shopping done and you've got a great BBQ and ride organised for the big day. As for us? Well we've been busy in the shop building all sorts of new dream machines as well as glossy new bikes for the young-uns too.
On top of that, there are some grand plans for the shop layout that is going to be executed over the Christmas break, with the plan to reveal the new interior in the New Year. We might hopefully get some rest and some riding in there at some point too!
For those wanting to get your bike sorted for the holidays, make sure you get in to the shop before next weekend as we'll be closing at 5pm on Saturday the 22nd. The shop will re-open on Tuesday the 8th of January, ready to reveal all and hit the ground running for 2013!
Till then, Merry Christmas to all and have a happy New Year!

My Mountain - Thankyou
On Oct 27th 2007 My Mountain opened its doors in
Brunswick with the ambition of becoming Australia's best mountain bike
store.
Within a couple of years, we realised that, like us, many
mountain bikers liked to get out on road bikes as well so we started to introduce
road bikes into the store while continuing to refine and improve our
offering. Despite many changes, our
ethos has remained constant- we provide the best possible customer service, the
right bike, the right fit and build our bikes to the highest possible
standards. We have come a long way since
those first days when we had a bit of P & A on the walls
and a handful of bikes. We have
continually studied suspension setup and bike fitting, while logging countless
hours on different bikes so that we understand what type of bike would fit
particular types of riders.
We have always known we do things differently, but have
always liked that fact. We never wanted
to be the biggest or to sell the most.
We have just continually looked for better ways to get people out on
bikes so they can experience the same love of bikes that we have.
Oct 1st 2012 marks another major milestone for My
Mountain. Just short of five years after opening, I will hand the reins over to
Tim Wilson.Tim's enthusiasm for bikes is contagious and fits My
Mountain well in every way. Coming from
a DH background and working in another iconic Melbourne store for 15 years, Tim
is set to make My Mountain even better yet.
I'm extremely excited for Tim and the store and look forward to joining
many of you on the customer side of the fence.
So over the next six weeks, I hope to catch as many of
our regular customers as possible to thank person. I truly appreciate everyone's support over
the last five years and feel privileged to have been involved with such a group
of fantastic people.
My Mountain as a store is made up of enthusiastic/
knowledgeable staff, a great group of customers who share our vision and enjoy
the relationship they have with us, other riders, and of course their
bikes. As the owner of My Mountain, I
have been lucky enough to know each and every person associated with the store
and have gained great satisfaction in the way we have been able to bring people
together to enjoy the outdoors, get muddy, and in one case that we know of,
meet their future husband/ wife. Keep an
eye out for ride days, social events, and Crazy Crusty Deals between now and
Oct 1st. It's going to be fun!

Santa Cruz Tallboy LT Carbon
The newest addition to the Santa Cruz family the Tallboy LTc has provoked huge excitement from our customers and the first two orders have arrived today. The large yellow and medium black will be be kitted out with the SPX AM build (full Shimano XT groupsets) and Fox 34 140 29 forks. Sweet!
If you are interested in the Tallboy LT, we have access to a large alloy demo bike, this shares the same geometry as the carbon and will give you a good indication of how well these bike handle technical trails.

Winter MTB Training Sessions
A few of the crew from My Mountain went along to the first MTB specific training session at The Spin Room last night to find that Sam had something quite different planned. The group of us looking to gain some extra winter fitness went along expecting the same smash fest Sam is famous for, but this was to be different. I knew we were in trouble when he told everyone to come to a stop and get off the bikes...
As many of us know, core strength is something that is very helpful to cyclist, however very few actually do anything to train and condition this important aspect of cycling. This was evident by the amount of us that couldn't stay in the position on the ground that Sam was in while he was talking "yelling" at everyone. Our homework is to do this every morning before going to work. 2 minutes of core strength to start the day; just what the Dr ordered. Once back on the bike, I thought we would be back to normal and I could relax, even if only a little. But that wasn't to be as we then spent around 10 minutes riding with our hands off the bars, and at times holding weights out in front to further work our core muscles. Not sure if that sounds easy, but you should try it; sitting in the normal riding position with your hands an inch off your bars. You will be surprised. It might be hard to get this right without Sarah standing beside you to correct you every time you start to cheat. Eyes like a hawk!
Now around half way through the session it was time to do a quick threshold test to determine our threshold power that we will be attempting to increase over the next 8 weeks. After the first session I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements I can make in a 1 hours spin session per week. My feeling is that the improvement will be impressive, but I'll keep you posted.
And if you want to join us in our mid-winter fight for fitness, we are doing this every Thursday night at 7:30 in the North Fitzroy spin room. Maybe I'll see you there.
