Long rides don't have to be a pain in the butt

When it comes to saddles there seems to be a belief that the only way to find a comfy saddle is to waste hundreds of dollars trying different saddles and throwing or giving away the ones that just aren't comfortable. Believe it or not saddle comfort isn't black magic it is in fact an exact science. Hidden within our nether regions are two bony prominences which are part of our pelvis, these tend to be known in the industry as 'sit bones'. These bones were specifically placed there by God for the sole purpose of riding bikes. By focusing the majority of body weight on to these bones a rider will be more comfortable and experience little to no numbness of their 'special place'. The reason why a lot of riders experience pain or numbness on long ride is two fold. First these divine weight bearing bones can become sensitive from long periods of disuse. Secondly a poorly fitted saddle that does not put correct pressure on the sit bones will put excess load on soft tissue surrounding the sit bones. This pressure can pinch off nerves and blood vessels and cause the dreaded dingle tingle. The best and only way around this is to ride a good quality saddle that has been fitted correctly. Bontrager offer a wide range of saddle types from budget comfort saddles to carbon railed, fibre shell race saddles. The biggest advantage of the Bontrager line up is that each saddle model comes in three widths depending on how wide your hips are. This is so the custom curvature will match your sit bones perfectly. They also offer WSD saddles specifically moulded for the ladies among us.

Final report from Ingkerreke

Well guys the week of Ingkerreke Enduro was an absolute blast. Even better is the fact that the Ronnblefish was brilliant and I was getting infront of guys I normally lag behind. My final overall placing was 58th out of 155 riders, which for me I'm pretty darn happy about. Something else to rave about is those Maxxis Ardent tyres, they never let  me down and the grip in the corners great.

Well got to get ready now for another XC race this weekend.

Thanks

Suspension Service Special

With suspension getting much smoother and more sophisticated in recent years its getting harder to tell when they need a service. We recommend that our customers have their Fox suspension serviced every 100 hours of riding or 12 months which ever comes first. This kind of preventative servicing will ensure that your bike performs as it's meant to and will also ensure you don't experience this kind of damage to your pride and joy. To help you out with these servicing costs we're offering a fork and shock service normally valued at $260 for $199 to any one running Fox suspension front and rear who comes into the store and says 'uh I'd like to get my suspension serviced'.

Update from the front line of the Ingerreke Enduro

Ron has been giving us updates on how the Ronblefish is going out in the Red centre, so thought we would pass on his email below.
Hey Jerry and Ben.

Having an awesome time at the second day of the Ingerreke Enduro. Stage 3 done.  155 iders in total here in Alice Springs with the Ronnblefish placing 61 after Stage 1, stage 2 dropping one place to 62nd.  Stage 1 was 39km XC and stage 2 being a very steep 300m climb up our local look out Anzac Hill. Its a bitumen climb. Fastest rider completed 45 sec the Ronnblefish 1min 16sec. Stage 3 today 49km XC with very technical terrain.  After 15km I bent the bolts holding my cleat on my right shoe and had the cleat about 30 degrees offset which made it  a little annoying. Came in with a 2hr 48min. Not sure where that now places me but I will find out this afternoon. Tomorrow the longest stage 77km XC.

Woo Hoo, awesome!!!

Have Fun Guys

Trek EX 9 - The Perfect All Rounder?

The Trek Fuel EX range has been the most popular dual suspension platform at My Mountain since we opened. The EX has come a long way since its introduction in 2005 when it had 100mm travel and was the long travel option over the then 80mm travel Top Fuel. Trek mountain bikes have always been at the forefront of dual suspension technology with the EX benefitting greatly from Trek’s research and development and collaborations with Fox suspension in recent years.

The Trek EX 9 model hits the sweet spot in the range and is the top of the line aluminium model before jumping up to the EX 9.8. In 2012 the EX range received a slight geometry tweak by slackening the head angle 1 deg, to hit the magic trail bike number of 68 degrees, increased stability and confidence is the result. This added surefootedness allows you to really test out the 120mm of Fox DRCV suspension, which for this year found its way into the fork as well as the shock. In simple terms the DRCV (Dual Rate Control Valve) is a secondary air chamber in both the shock and fork which comes into effect at 50% travel ensuring things don’t get squirelly in the bottom half of the travel. Combine this sweet technology with Trek’s ABP (Active Braking Pivot) and the Full Floater rear end design and you have a bike that smashes fast, technical terrain with ease. The ABP system ensures that even when braking hard into a choppy corner the rear suspension is still working, no stiffening or suddenly feeling like you’re on a hardtail. Rear end stiffness is impressive on the EX with the new 142 x 12 rear end taking some of the credit, wheel removal and installation is simple and solid with Rockshox’s clever Maxle system. If you ever need to run a standard 135mm rear wheel the EX can easily be converted.

A full Shimano XT groupset with XTR rear derailleur and Shimano XT Ice Tech brakes takes care of the running gear, providing flawless shifting and incredibly powerful braking, increased further by the smart addition of a 180mm rotor up front. Bontrager Rhythm Elite wheels spin on cartridge bearing hubs and run a 28mm wide rim for good tyre shape in larger volume rubber. The Bontrager wheels come set up as 15mm front and 142 x 12 rear but can be easily converted to 9 or 20mm front and 135mm for the rear, tubeless conversion is easy with Bontragers Tubeless rim strips and valves.

The key to the EX 9 success is its versatility, the bike can handle a huge range of riding without ever being out of its depth, it is a blast to ride. Drop into the store and check it out for yourself!
