The idea was floated around 4 weeks ago, after I had come back from my holiday in the UK. With a 22 hour flight, I had many an hour to think about what upgrades and changes I could make to my bike fleet, particularly after hearing about our new mechanic having custom painted his commuter bike.
Grip Sport are a clan located in Thomastown, that specialise in frame repairs, restoration and painting. A quick chat to Mark about the custom concept, and we had 3 frames ready to send up to the lads for a bit re-spray love.
To go with the new "My Mountain Green" paintjob, the obvious addition was some custom graphics just to give the bikes a little bit of jewellery.
Given the quality of the vinyl cut stickers, you would be forgiven for mistaking these new bad boys as some kind of "My Mountain Prototype" manufacturing project...
Mark's ultra-trendy commuter bike now has a new lease on life, with a bright green paintjob and matching mudguards too. Perfect for cruising the streets on his way to run errands, buy flowers, coffee, hair gel (and other metrosexual products). The understated graphics and silver finishing just screams "FITZROY!
My Singlespeed in all of its environmentally-friendly Green glory. Still deciding on whether I should get a silver Thomson stem and seat post, given my inability to not spend money on bikes, I think that one is a given....
For those out there with a bike that they love to death, but just needs a little something extra, or for those who have a disusedpushie that perhaps has been gathering dust in the shed for a little too long, we cannot recommend getting a custome paintjob highly enough.
There is nothing quite like developing an unhealthy obsession with a bicycle, and not only does the re-spray rejuvinate your bike, but you know that there is absolutely no-one else in the world with the bike you're riding through the singeltrack with.
And best of all, it's not as expensive as you think - just $150 for a new powdercoat on your frame.
Drop by the store if you want to check out the quality of the paint in person, or give the lads at Grip Sport a call if you're ready to move to a new level of commitment with your two-wheeled machine.
