The trails were in perfect condition, which was a far-cry from the slushy mud we encoutnered on our last SSS ride out at Smiths Gully.
With rolling hills, the trails provide a healthy dose of climbing and descending with lots of fun switchbacks and you get that distinct feeling that you are out of the city and enjoying the natural environment around you.
After ascending the first big climb of the day, Brian decided he would like to see his breakfast one more time and proceded to paint the local flora an off-yellow colour. After getting it all off his chest, the ride continued on but perhaps it was a sign of things to come...
This photo here is of the group heading down a singletrack descent that featured a few rolling jumps. Titanium Tim, being the air-born seeker he is, boosted one of these "jumps" and ended up getting a little sideways on the landing. After clipping a pedal on a small tree, Tim was sent off the trail into a slightly bigger tree...

...which claimed his beautiful custom wheel that we had only built for him earlier this year. As you can see, his wheel pulled off a very good impersonation of a Taco!
We got the wheel into a slightly straighter condition so at least Tim could walk the bike out of the singletrack, and we proceded to head back towards the carpark via a series of fireroads that would be quicker than the singletrack option. Or so we thought.
After an hour of climbing, taking wrong turns and breaking up into about 3 separate groups, we eventually got back to the carpark after wandering starting the ride 4 hours earlier. Although things didn't quite go according to plan, it did make the pies and coffee at the end of the ride very much tastier for it!

Our next SSS weekend shop ride will be on for early October and the details will be emailed out shortly to all My Mountain SSS members.
We also have a MM-only Spin Class booked in for Monday the 3rd of October.
This invitational class at the Spin Room will be an introduction to indoor cycling for mountain bikers and is designed for all fitness levels. It will be complementary for SSS members and the class details have already been mailed out, which you will need to reply to in order to book a spot. If you haven't received any information about the class, please give us a call at the shop to update your contact email details.
For future SSS members, feel free to drop into MMHQ or give us a call to see what's involved in becoming a member and why it is a seriously rad crew to be part of!
